Underutilization

Users may fail to adopt, trust, or effectively leverage an AI system, leading to suboptimal outcomes and unrealized technology investments.

📋 Description

Underutilization occurs when an AI system is not adopted, trusted, or leveraged effectively by its intended users. This often occurs due to user resistance stemming from insufficient training, lack of understanding of the AI system’s capabilities, unclear communication of benefits, or skepticism towards technological change. Consequently, employees may revert to outdated manual processes or less effective tools, diminishing the expected return on investment and efficiency improvements initially envisioned by the organization.

When an AI system is underutilized, organizations face not only financial losses associated with underperforming technology investments but also competitive disadvantages due to slower decision-making and reduced innovation capacity. Persistent underutilization can further reinforce skepticism toward AI solutions within the organizational culture, hindering future initiatives and preventing the organization from fully capitalizing on strategic advantages offered by advanced AI technologies.
